What happens when you cross a tangerine with a grapefruit? Drum roll please...Tangelos! 

Tangelos are a winter fruit and at their best in July and August. Like all citrus fruits they are high in vitamin C but they will also supply your diet with beneficial fibre and potassium. They are easy to peel, refreshingly sweet and very juicy.

How to pick:

The skin should be shiny and a rich deep orange colour. Avoid tangelos that appear shrunken and have wrinkled skin.

How to store:

Can be stored in the fridge if you like eating them cold or in a fruit bowl away from direct sunlight.

How to prepare:

Best eaten on their own as a healthy snack they are a great substitute for oranges in baking.
