This pear shaped golden yellow fruit from the tropics is our pick of the week... With a mostly sweet taste and just the right amount of tartness, papaya is one of natures superfoods!
Papaya is rich in cholesterol lowering carotenes, vitamins A, B, C and E, flavonoids, folate, potassium, magnesium, and is also high in fiber.
Available all year round Papaya is at it's best in Spring.
How to pick:
Look for papaya that has mostly yellow skin with some green. This will allow the fruit to ripen at home. A fully ripe papaya will have bright yellow skin. Papaya fruit should feel firm and heavy for it's size. Avoid papaya that is over soft, has blemishes or soft spots.
How to store:
Fully ripe papaya can be refrigerated in a plastic bag. To ripen your papaya keep it in a brown paper bag at room temperature.
How to prepare:
Enjoy it just as it is or add to a variety of asian style dishes.
