Broad Beans

Broad Beans, also widely known as Fava Beans, are our pick of the week. Remove the pod and you are left with little green nuggets of delight! They have a nutty flavour and are a little bit sweet and buttery in taste. Available in Winter and spring only.

How to pick:

Select pods that are green and fairly smooth.

How to store:

In the crisper of your fridge. Don't remove the beans from the pod until you are ready to use them.

How to prepare:

Pull off the top and unzip the seam of the bean pod. Open the pod and remove the beans (you normally get 4-5 in each pod). Blanch them in boiling water for 30 seconds to remove the outer wax coating and then transfer into cold water to stop the cooking process. These delicious little babies will now be ready for most recipes.

Try steaming them until tender and then mixing through some olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper. They also make a great addition to a green salad or pasta dish.

We love to spread them on bruschetta and drizzle with olive oil and a sprinkling of goats cheese or sautee them in a pan with some speck and onions.
